Chinese Mandarin 1 Weekend Immersion

Weekend full immersion course for beginners, focusing on practical Chinese Mandarin skills which are useful for travelers and businesspeople. Build your confidence and make the most of your dealings with Chinese people. No previous knowledge of the language is required. By the end of the weekend, you will be able to conduct some small talk: introduce yourself, talk about your family and your job. A great introduction to the Chinese language and culture.

Weekend full immersion course - By the end of the weekend, you will gain an appreciation of the Chinese language and culture. You will be able to conduct some small talk: introduce yourself, talk about your family and your job. 

Topics covered include:

  • Greetings  Greet people, give your name and ask how people are.
  • Professions  Ask and answer questions about your job; you will also be able to ask about and give your phone number.
  • Nationalities and languages   Say where you come from and give the language you speak; you will also be able to ask other people about these subjects.
  • Family  Talk about the people in your family (or, if you prefer, other people’s families) and say how old they are.
  • Time and transport  Tell the time and give days and months; you will also be able to ask for a ticket on public transport.
  • Chinese language system Understand the pinyin system (romanised form of Chinese) and pronounce the four Mandarin tones.
  • Chinese culture  The best way to understand a culture is to learn the language. Throughout the course you will learn about Chinese culture and how Chinese people view the world.

This course is designed for adults (minimum age is 15). The class limit is 15 people. Course will run from 9.30am-2.30pm Saturday and Sunday (with 30-minute lunch break).
